My Heart and Other Black Holes

My Heart and Other Black Holes - Jasmine Warga I became really interested with this book since the first time I saw it. The premise was really catchy and it made me curious. I may have been interested with books that deals with issues such as suicide lately. It seems dark and sad, yes, but there's something about these kinds of books that makes me want to read them all, because I know that there are life lessons waiting to be learned from them. My Heart and Other Black Holes perfectly fit the list.

Aysel and Roman are two teenagers who are both plotting their suicide. Being suicide partners, they spent a chunk of time together which made them realize things that might change their decision to die after all. I found both characters to be really interesting and it's one of the things that made me really invested into this novel. Both characters present a realistic personality, which made their characters to be very relatable. They have such great chemistry together, which twists my heart in a way because I do find them adorable at times. And well, scared at some point because I really didn't want them both to die. I love the fact that they did try to fill each other's holes.

The humor in this book, although it wasn't that much, it was very much on point. For such a sad theme, it was really helpful to have something that will make you smile or laugh throughout the story. The main characters' snarky attitude was one of my favorite things because it really made them very "teen".

I loved the ending, although it seemed a bit abrupt and short, it really fits the book. The feels just punched me straight in the gut and I loved it. For a debut novel, this one says a lot of things. Being in the hype, it didn't stop me from reading this one, since I tend to (recently) turn away from things that are in the "hype". Moreover, this book deserves all the attention it's getting!

I totally commend Jasmine Warga for delivering such great talent in writing a heartfelt story. This book is beautifully written. It's moving, touching, emotional, poignant and the touch of humor makes the book perfect.
